38.7 x 49.8 cm, hand-coloured copper engraving, with centerfold as issued, paper toning, water stained, entire Borneo and other small areas crudely backed, but still with tiny cracks and small holes, and small image loss, cleaned, browning althroughout; decorative map, as a re-issue of the Janssonius plate. With modified title and signature. Decorated with 3 cartouches, 2 compass roses, ships and sea monsters. When first issued in 1630, it was the first map to include the discoveries made by the Dutch vessel Duyfken in 1605-6 in the Gulf of Carpantaria, which made the first recorded European contacts with Australia.
